Just Wait A Minute from Myzica

Our currently listening for this week come from the new promising indie synth-pop duo band from Nashville, Myzica. As we already know, Nashville is one the best country music producer in United States, but Myzica brings the difference with the their new sound of music. Yupp! Micah Tawlks and Isaaca Byrd introduced their own music with upbeat and danceable melodies from electronic instruments, keyboard, awesome drums beat, and sometimes the sound of clapping hands or snapping fingers. Plus, Isaaca Byrd’s voice is so great, smooth, and really nice to hear. I bet your ears will delighted when you listening their music combined with Byrd’s voice.

Throw Back Thursday

Mirror Mirror by M2M

Back when I was a teenager, M2M was really a thing. The Norwegian pop-duo were consist of Marion Raven and Marit Larsen. They received success in early 2000’s, too bad the band decided to broke up in 2002. I loved to listen to their music because they wrote songs that relate with teenagers feelings–it wasn’t mainly about love, but also about friendship; besides, they weren’t only sing, but also played their instruments to created melodies that are easy to listen and sing to. No wonder they became one of the teenage stars that were quite known in my country, especially when their song Don’t Say You Love Me became one of the soundtracks for Pokemon the movie. While my brother got Pikachu doll, yes you read it right–my brother got a bag size Pikachu doll, I got M2M cassette, the Shades of Purple album, from my Dad.

Sure thing, I know by heart songs and lyrics from that album, but my favorite is Mirror Mirror. Because at that moment, as a teenager especially, it happened too often you said or act stupid then regret it a moment later and wish you can fix it. And, like I stated before, M2M songs were relate with teenagers feeling 🙂 If you grow up with their songs, or curious to listen what’s thing song about, kindly play the press button below 🙂

Album Review

Album Review: All Lit Up by Repartee

Once again, I found another album that makes me thrilled listening all songs from the album. This time, it comes from Newfoundland electro-pop band, Repartee. Their debut album called All Lit Up is a kind of album that makes you never push next button and get excited to listen whole songs from the beginning until the end. All Lit Up already released since April 2016 and this album include eight great song that really worth to be heard.

At the beginning of the album, we will hear a song called All Lit Up. This song has great melodies and very catchy tunes which I’m sure you will love it since the first drum beat you heard and makes you curious about the next song. And yes, if you like the first song, I bet you will like Die B4U too. This song has the same awesome drum beat with All Lit Up and the sound from electric guitar at the pre-chorus makes the song so great.

The beat is getting a little bit slow with a mid-tempo song called Miracle. But still, Meg Warren’s powerful and wonderful voice already gave me chills every time I hear it. After a mid-tempo song, Repartee push us to dance with their next song called Electric Every Day which one of my favorite song from the album. Electric Every Day is a cheerful and danceable upbeat song that I’m sure you will love it at the first time you hear it. Totally love the drum beat and once again, Meg Warren’s high voice makes whole song become so freakin’ awesome.

You will hear many sounds from electronic instruments in their song called Nice Girls. It makes this song has a rich synth-pop tunes and great melodies to hear. Next song is my favorite song from the album. Right! We talked about Dukes. I think I already told you about how awesome this song at Currently Listening category before and yes, until now this song still become my morning jam for almost two months. Dukes is an upbeat song with awesome melodies and rich tunes from electronic instruments combined with the sounds of snapping fingers and clapping hands that make this song so perfect and really worth to be heard. I bet you will sing along with Meg during this song.

We can hear another mid-tempo song in the next song called Carelessly, Carelessly. Still, the rich tunes from electronic instruments makes this song got my eartention. Fall Apart definitely a perfect song to ending this awesome album from Repartee. Like All Lit Up and Die B4U, Fall Apart also has a great drum beat and the melodies are so danceable and singable. It’s hard to stay silence and not moving your body while you hear this song.

Okay, as the conclusion, I considered All Lit Up from Repartee as one of the best album that I ever heard in 2016. Meg Warren (lead vocal). Robbie Brett (guitar), Nick Coultas-Clarke (drums), and Josh Banfield (keyboards) definitely success gave us something that really worth to be heard. Their music is so great and the arrangement of the songs are perfect and makes me so curious to listened whole songs until the end. If I could give a score, I will give 8 of 10 for All Lit Up album. If you haven’t heard their music yet, I suggest you to push play button in their Spotify below. Thank you.

In Our Humble Opinion

Unsigned/Independent Musicians: The Real Struggle In Music Industry

Actually, I just realized this is the third time I talked about indie music for IOHO category. I’m so sorry and honestly I don’t know why. Sometimes I’m amazed with so many musicians who try to introduce their music independently, from the writing process until they published their own music. Not like some  musicians who signed a contract with major record label,  unsigned or independent musician often struggling with some things to introduce their own music.

As the variation of music genre grows wider recently, we can find so many independent musician everywhere. For all of you who like to dig and discover some new music, I’m sure you can find some kind of treasure in their music. Well, not like another famous musician who we can find easily in television, radio, or any website, sometimes indie musician rely on people or listener to find their music.  From what I saw, maybe they have their own reason why they don’t signed a contract with any record label.  They might be want to make their own music, doesn’t want to be told about what they should do or shouldn’t do, or they are actually doesn’t have selling target. Independent musician just want to produce and introduce their creativity through music and self-belief that their music deserve to be heard.

Actually, I’m not an indie musician or someone who produce things so maybe my opinion could be wrong. But, I have some thoughts about the things that makes indie musicians struggling in music industry. The first thing that cross in my mind is about production cost. Well, this might become the main problems for every indie musicians with limit budget to produce music. They have to rent a record studio or additional player, bought musical instruments, and produce their music through CD or vinyl. But, in the other side, indie musicians has something that any musician with major label doesn’t have. It’s freedom. They are the one who decide how to make their own music, how and when to release their music, where they want to held gigs, how to promote their music, how many music video they will make, how much they will sell their music, and other things. They are the one who control everything and no one holds them back. When they could control everything, they will find their own way to produce their music with their own budget.

The next thing is people’s music taste. Indie musician create music based on their music passion and vision without thinking what kind of music that happening right now. Because actually, people will search music based on the style of music they like and enjoy. Sometimes, music that we heard on the radio or television doesn’t fit with our ears or music taste so we tried to discover new things. And yes,  people thrive to explore so many kind of new music and sound so we always feel curious to find our next favorite band or singer.

The last thing is about self-publishing and promotion. Well, maybe this is the main things from the whole process of independent music production. Every indie musicians definitely wants their music to be heard by people around the world. But maybe, back to the budget problem, some indie musician can’t effort things like press conference, launch/released party, being recognized by Spotify or other website, and other things to promote their music. But now, there are so many website who curate and help to promote so many kind of indie music, like Bandcamp, Indieshuffle, Soundcloud, or MySpace. This websites definitely gave a huge impact for every independent musician nowadays. I could find so many great indie musicians through these websites. Beside that, there are so many indie musicians who finally become a success band or singer through their own network, friends, or fanbase without help from major labels.

Okay, that’s my opinion about the things that might be every indie musician had been through in the process to produce their music. If you have other opinion about indie musicians or music, you can give your comment and share it with us. Thank you so much.
